Ekushey February, also known as International Mother Language Day,
commemorates the Language Movement martyrs in Bangladesh who sacrificed their
lives for the recognition of Bengali as one of the state languages of Pakistan
in 1952.

The day symbolizes linguistic diversity and cultural identity. It’s a reminder
of the power of language in shaping society and preserving heritage. The
UNESCO declaration in 1999 elevated its significance globally, promoting
linguistic and cultural diversity worldwide.

Ekushey February stands as a beacon of unity, resilience, and the indomitable
spirit of people striving to preserve their mother tongue against oppression
and discrimination. It’s a day of remembrance, honor, and celebration.
